Bricker Wins Pennsylvania Amateur Golf Championship
University Park, Pa., Aug. 3, 2006 - Penn State sophomore-to-be Chad Bricker (Waynesboro, Pa.) handled high temperatures and several key par saves down the stretch to win the 93rd Pennsylvania Amateur Championship at Moselem Springs Golf Club in Fleetwood, Pa., Wednesday. Bricker fired rounds of 69, 69 and 70 to finish 2-under par (208) for the 54 holes on the par-70, 6,824-yard course. His cool head and clutch play earned him the title of Pennsylvania State Champion. Bricker was the only player in the 132-player field to finish the three rounds under par. Bricker used irons off the tees and made clutch up-and downs to out-dual Christopher Shultz, who shot an even par 210 to finish in a tie for second, down the stretch. Key par saves on the par-4 No. 10, par-5 No. 12 and par-3 No. 13 helped Bricker stay in a tie for the lead at 2-under par with two holes to play. None was more impressive than on the 10th were he recovered from a poor drive by cutting a 6-iron approach into the wind from 175 yard out and landing it within 15 feet of the hole. He two putted for par from there. Bricker made par on the final two holes while Shultz bogeyed both as the Nittany Lion claimed the championship by two strokes. Bricker got off to a quick start in the tournament getting his score to as low as 5-under par during a first round that included a hole-out for eagle from the fairway on the eighth hole.
