UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Rising seniors Jens Talbert (Little Rock, Ark.) and Xander McDonald-Smith (Rockaway Park, N.Y.) have both earned 2014 Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar honors. Presently annually by the Golf Coaches Association America, the duo is among just 208 DI student-athletes from around the country to be selected for the prestigious honor.
To earn All-America Scholar status, student-athletes must be either a junior or senior in academic standing, having participated in at least 50 percent of the team's last three full seasons, 50 percent of the team's competitive rounds and have a stroke average under 76.0. Eligible student-athletes must also maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. Recipients must also be of high moral character and in good collegiate standing.
McDonald-Smith recently earned his first MGA Public Links Championship after leading the field by five strokes with a 36-hole score of 138. After competing in all 10 events for Penn State last season with two top-10 finishes, Talbert recently earned DI Northeast PING All-Region honors for his performances during the 2013-14 season.
