Golfers Foley And Tarney Qualify For U.S. Public Links Amateur Championship
June 20, 2007 UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; June 20, 2007 - Penn State sophomores Kevin Foley (Somerville, N.J.) and Tyler Tarney (Galena, Ohio) have joined senior Robert Rohanna (Waynesburg, Pa.) in qualifing for the 2007 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship. Foley fired rounds of 71 and 70 to post a two-round total of 141 and win the sectional qualifier at the Bethpage State Park Blue Course in Farmingdale, N.Y. Tarney fired rounds of 76 and 71 to post a total of 147 good for second at the sectional qualifier at Reid Park Golf Course in Springfield, Ohio. The pair will join Rohanna, who won a sectional qualifier at Donegal Heights Golf Course earlier in the month, and 156 of the finest amateur golfers in the world in the USGA championship played at Cantigny Golf July 9-14. Players qualify based on a variety of criteria, either exemption based on past performance or through pre-championship qualifying. The Amateur Public Links Champion earns the right to play in the 2008 Masters.
