Former Penn State Golfer Fuller Wins On Grey Goose Gateway Tour
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa., July 18, 2006 - Former Penn State golfer Jim Fuller (1999-2003) posted a final round 68 and birdied the final hole of regulation to force a playoff before claiming victory last weekend on the Grey Goose Gateway Tour Beach Summer Series in Florida. The victory earned Fuller $25,691 and propelled him into sixth on the tour money list with $27,387 with nine tournaments to play in the series that runs through Sept. 22. Fuller fired a 33 on the back nine in the final round to force a tie with Akia Sadakata on the Champions Course at the PGA National Golf Club in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. Fuller's birdie on the par-5, 18th hole, one of four on the day with no bogies, forced a playoff which he then won with a birdie on the second hole. Fuller fired rounds of 64, 70, 76 and 68 for a 10-under-par total of 278. It was the first win on the tour for Fuller who also placed 34th in the second tournament of the season. Fuller's opening round 64, in which he posted eight birdies and 10 pars, was his lowest round on tour this year. Fuller was the 2003 Mid-Atlantic Regional Player of the Year and a 2003 All-Big Ten selection at Penn State and is the Nittany Lions' all-time scoring leader having posted a 73.56 career average over 111 rounds in the Blue and White.
