Men's Golf Team Grabs Regional Honors

State College, Pa. - July 11, 2003 - The Penn State men's golf team grabbed a number of regional honors with the recent release of the Mid-Atlantic Region Division I final rankings.

As a team, Penn State ended the year as the No. 1 ranked team in the Mid-Atlantic Region, finishing ahead of second-place Maryland and No. 3 James Madison. Senior Jim Fuller (Muskogee, Okla.), who was Penn State's top golfer all season long, was named the Regional Player of the Year and was joined on the All-Region team by sophomore Mark Leon (Brampton, Ontario) and Greg Pieczynski (Kingston, Pa.).

Penn State had a successful 2002-03 season, winning the James Madison Invitational and its own Rutherford Intercollegiate. The team qualified for the NCAA East Regional Championships, placing 17th.
