Men¡¯s Golfer Leon Named Honorable Mention All-American
University Park, Pa., June 8, 2004 ¨C Penn State junior Mark Leon (Brampton, Ontario) was named as an honorable mention PING All America selection today. Leon led the Nittany Lions in scoring average in 2003-04, as Penn State qualified for its first NCAA Championship event since 1996. At those NCAA Championships, Leon was one of just seven golfers to finish the four rounds under par, finishing in a sixth place tie with his 1-under 279. He led a Penn State squad that made the tournament¡¯s third round cut and registered its best NCAA finish in school history (15th). During the regular season, Leon finished in the top 15 in eight tournaments, including his first career tournament win at the October 11th MacDonald Cup and his sixth place performance at the NCAA Championships. He finished the 2003-04 campaign with a team-best 72.6 scoring average and has a career scoring average of 73.83. His 73.83 career average is on pace to finish among Penn State¡¯s career scoring leaders ¨C a group led by Jim Fuller¡¯s (1999-2003) 73.56 scoring average.
