Nittany Lion Golfers in 19th Place as Day Three of NCAA Championship Continues

State College, Pa. ¨C June 3, 2004 ¨C The Penn State Nittany Lion golf team has completed its action on day three of the 2004 NCAA Men¡¯s Golf Championships held at the Homestead and hosted by Virginia Tech. Penn State shot a ten-over 290 and slipped to 19th place with half the field yet to complete its round today.

Penn State is +30 through three days of action. UCLA leads the tournament at plus-seven after shooting five-under today. Kentucky is second at plus-12 while California is third at plus-15. Toledo (+26), Georgia (+26), USC (+26), Oklahoma State (+27) and Kent State (+28) are in 10th to 15th place but have yet to complete action today.

The top 15 teams at the end of today¡¯s action advance to the final round of the NCAA Championships tomorrow. Seven teams ahead of Penn State in the standings still must complete action today as well as eight behind it.

Junior Mark Leon (Brampton, Ontario) shot a two-under 70 today and moved to eighth place in the individual standings. Leon has a 69-69-70/208 through three days of place.

Action concludes this evening in Hot Spring, Va., with 15 teams still on the course. The final round will take place tomorrow.
