Pieczynski, Leon, and Coach Greg Nye Receive All-Region Honors
University Park, Pa., May 27, 2004 ¨C For the second consecutive season, Penn State juniors Mark Leon (Brampton, Ontario) and Greg Pieczynski (Kingston, Pa.) received PING All Mid-Atlantic Region honors. Head Coach Greg Nye also received Mid-Atlantic Region honors, his fifth career Regional Coach of the Year award. Leon leads the Nittany Lions with his 72.9 scoring average in 2003-04 and has finished among the top 25 individuals in 11 of his 13 tournaments this season. He captured the fall¡¯s MacDonald Cup individual title by firing a 72-67-139, his first career tournament crown. Pieczynski is second on the team with his 73.2 season average and has finished in the top five in two of his last four tournaments. The junior captured the individual title at Penn State¡¯s home Rutherford Intercollegiate (April 30-May 1) this spring and fired a 71-71-69-211 at this past weekend¡¯s NCAA East Regional to help propel the Nittany Lions into next week¡¯s NCAA Championships. Pieczynski finished in a fourth place tie at the East Regional ¨C his fourth top five finish this season. Coach Greg Nye receives his fifth Regional Coach of the Year honor, as he also received accolades in 1993, 1994, 2000 and 2001. Nye is in his 11th season at Penn State and 20th season overall. He has coached the Nittany Lions to 47 tournament titles and two NCAA Championship berths (1996, 2004).
