Men's Golf Ends the Second Round of the NCAA East Regional in First Place

New Haven, Conn, May 21, 2004 - The Penn State Men's Golf team ended the second day of NCAA East Regional competition in first place among a 27-team field. The Lions shot five over par for a total score of 575. Junior Greg Pieczynski (Kingston, Pa.) leads the Lions in their five-man field firing a 71 for the second consecutive day to sit two strokes over par.

Pieczynski currently holds a tie for ninth place, while senior Ted Neville (Oklahoma City, Okla.) shot a 3-over 70 to finish the round in a tie for 19th place. Junior Mark Leon rebounded from a four over par finish yesterday to a 1-over 70 today as he holds 24th place. Marco Poccia (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) shot three over par on the day and Jason Pannone (East Greenwich, R.I.) ended his round six over par.

Yesterday's leader, Florida (576), dropped to second place after carding a 10 over par 290 on the day. North Carolina (577) jumped to No. 3 as they shot the second best score among all teams in the round with a three over par. Clemson (579) and Georgia Tech (579) finished in a tie for fourth place to round out the top five. The top 10 teams from the Regional will advance to the NCAA Division I Men's Championship (June 1-4 in Hot Springs, Va.)
