Men¡¯s Golf in 12th Place Heading into Final Round of Maxwell Intercollegiate
Ardmore, Okla., May 15, 2004 ¨C The Penn State Men¡¯s Golf team fired a 292-289-581 in Saturday¡¯s first and second rounds to end the day in 12th place out of the 14 competing teams at the Maxwell Intercollegiate. Led by junior Mark Leon¡¯s (Brampton, Ontario) 73-70-143, the Nittany Lions will enter Sunday¡¯s final round 32 strokes back of the host Oklahoma State Cowboys for the tournament lead. Oklahoma native Ted Neville (Oklahoma City, Okla.) sits one stroke back of Leon after firing a 73-71-144 and is tied for 33rd place overall after two rounds of play. Sophomore Marco Poccia (Saratoga Springs, NY) is also among the tournament¡¯s top 50, as his 73-73-146 is tied for 48th place overall. Junior Greg Pieczynski (Kingston, Pa.) sits in a 61st place tie with his 73-75-148, while freshman Jason Pannone¡¯s (East Greenwich, RI) 74-74-151 is good for 72nd place to round out Penn State¡¯s top five. Teams will tee off with a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m. tomorrow (10:00 a.m. EST) for the final 18 holes of play.
