COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Penn State men’s golf team is in sixth place after two rounds at the Columbus NCAA Regional after posting a team score of 11-over on Tuesday at the Ohio State Golf Club. The Nittany Lions have posted a tournament two-day total of 20-over-par.
Weather forced the conclusion of round two to Wednesday morning as four teams and individuals were on the course when play was suspended. Round two resumes at 7 a.m. and the final round should proceed on schedule.
The Nittany Lions are just one of three teams to have four individuals inside the top 30 and are just three strokes behind a qualifying position. The top-five teams in the region will advance to the national championship.
The Penn State low-score was shared by senior Cole Miller (New Tripoli, Pa.) and sophomore Ryan Davis (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) who both carded rounds of 2-over 73 in round two. Miller is currently tied for 24th at 5-over for the regional and Davis is locked in 27th at 6-over.
Junior JD Hughes (Carlisle, Pa.) played a bogey-free second nine to shoot 3-over 74 in the second round to move to 3-over for the regional. Hughes has the highest position for the Nittany Lions on the individual leaderboard, tied for 17th.
Also at 6-over and tied for 27th is junior Charles Huntzinger (Duluth, Ga.) after carding a second round score of 4-over 75.
The region’s No. 1 team seed, Oklahoma State, has held onto its lead with a team score of 6-under in round two. The Cowboys are 9-under-par for the regional.
A four-way tie atop the individual leaderboard has two Cowboys and two Fighting Illini at 3-under. Nick Hardy and Michael Feagles represent Illinois and Matthew Wolff and Zach Bauchou of Oklahoma State each hold a share of the lead.
The final round will begin teeing off on Wednesday at 7:30 a.m. on the 7,455-yard, par 71 Scarlet Course. Live scoring is available here.
