Nittany Lion Men's Golf Team Headed To NCAA Regionals
State College, Pa. - May 11, 2005 - The Penn State Nittany Lion men's golf team, under the guidance of head coach Greg Nye, have been selected to participate in the 2005 NCAA Men's Golf Championship East Regional. The regional tournament will be held at the Golf Club of Tennessee in Nashville and will take place May 19-21. The appearance is Penn State's 16th straight. The Nittany Lions, the top team out of the Mid-Atlantic, will be the 20th seed in the 27-team event. The top ten teams and two individuals at the tournament will earn a trip to the 2005 NCAA Championships at Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Md., June 1-4. The Nittany Lions are one of five Big Ten teams earning spots in regional draws. Conference brethren Indiana will also compete in the East Regional. "We are certainly excited to be selected as the number one team out of the Mid-Atlantic region," Nye said. "We secured that spot with our strong performance at the Rutherford. Once again, the NCAA committee has seeded us in an appropriate spot given the stats they use. But the seeds don't necessarily look at all factors, and, like last year, our seed may light the fire to perform well in the East Regionals."
