INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.- The Penn State men's golf team has been selected to participate in the 2001 NCAA East Regional, the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Committee announced late Tuesday.

The Nittany Lions, which have won four tournaments this season, are the top seed in District 2. The East regional will be played Thursday, May 17 through Saturday, May 19 at the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club in Williamsburg, Va., hosted by Virginia Commonwealth University.

The three regional tournaments, encompassing nine districts, will be conducted May 17-19. A total of 421 participants have been selected for the regional competition with 156 of these players advancing to the championship final. The Division I Men's Golf Championship will be conducted May 30 to June 2 at the Duke University Golf Club in Durham, N.C., with Duke University hosting the event.

This the Nittany Lions' 12th consecutive appearance in the NCAA East Regional since 1990. PSU's best finish in the event came in 1996, when the squad advanced to the NCAA Championship.
