State College, Pa., May 6, 2004 - Junior Greg Pieczynski (Kingston, Pa.) became the first Penn State golfer to earn Big Ten Golfer of the Week honors since Jeff Turton won the honor in April of 2002. Pieczynski claimed the accolades after firing an 8-under par 208 to win last weekend's Rutherford Intercollegiate individual title.

At the Rutherford, Pieczynski set a season-best with his final round 67 and was par or better in each of the tournament's three rounds to finish with a three-stroke victory. It was Pieczynski's first collegiate victory and sixth career top-5 finish.

Pieczynski leads Penn State with his 73.67 spring scoring average this season, and his 2003-04 scoring average of 73.38 is just behind teammate Mark Leon (73.31; Brampton, Ontario) for the team lead.
