Nittany Lions Lead 2007 Rutherford Intercollegiate With One Round to Play

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; May 5, 2007 ¨C The Penn State men¡¯s golf team leads the 12-team field at two-over par at the 31st annual Rutherford Intercollegiate. The Nittany Lions, ranked 80th in the nation by Golfweek, shot rounds of 289 and 289 for a 36-hole total of 578 - 16 shots better than the next best team, Austin Peay. The tournament is being held at the newly-renovated 7,228-yard, par-72 Penn State Blue Course.

Freshman Kevin Foley (Somerville, N.J.) and sophomore Chad Bricker (Waynesboro, Pa.) are tied for second and lead Penn State at one-under par ¨C one shot behind the leader, Austin Peay¡¯s Grant Leaver. Leaver posted rounds of 69 and 73 (142). His first-round 69 was the lowest round of the day.

Foley, the 2007 Big Ten Freshman of the Year and a second-team All-Big Ten Conference selection, shot rounds of 72 and 71. Foley carded 26 pars and is the leader in par-5 scoring (-6, 4.25 average). Bricker, who leads the tournament in birdies with 10, fired rounds of 73 and 70. He sits among the leaders in par-4 (E, 4.00 average) and par-5 scoring (-5, 4.38 average).

Penn State junior Robert Rohanna (Waynesburg, Pa.) is tied for fourth at even-par. Rohanna, a first-team All-Big Ten Conference selection, shot rounds of 71 and 73 (144) and is tied for the lead in par-4 scoring (E, 4.00 average).

Junior Harvin Groft (State College, Pa.) fired rounds of 73 and 75 and is tied for eighth place at four-over par. Groft sunk eight birdies and is tied for second in par-5 scoring (-5, 4.38 average). Freshman Jim Markovitz (Bridgeville, Pa.) is tied for 17th place at six-over par. Markovitz ¨C second in par-3 scoring (E, 3.00 average) ¨C shot rounds of 73 and 77 for a two-round total of 150.

Playing individually for the Nittany Lions are seniors Marco Poccia (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and David Dankmyer (Gibsonia, Pa.) as well as sophomore Matt Leon (Brampton, Ontario) and freshman Tyler Tarney (Galena, Ohio). Poccia, who is tied for 14th place, leads that group at five-over par (149) after firing rounds of 71 and 78. Leon shot rounds of 78 and 73 (151, +7) and is tied for 20th place. Tarney (155, +11) and Dankmyer (162, +18) are tied for 33rd and 54th place, respectively.
