Men's Golf in Sixth Place After First Round of 2001 Big Ten Championship




State College, Pa; May 4, 2001 -- The Penn State men's golf team sits in sixth place out of 11 teams after the first day of the 2001 Big Ten Championship with a score of 293. Michigan State leads the competition with a score of 285.

Jim Fuller (Muskogee, Okla.) led the way for the Nittany Lions with a round of 71 and a share of sixth place. Andy Latowski (Pittsburgh, Pa.) earned a share of 12th place with an even-par score of 72. Matt Abbott (Endwell, N.Y.) shot a 74 for a share of 27th place. Jeff Turton (Ithaca, N.Y.) and Josh Dawes (Jacksonville, Fla.) shot rounds of 76 and 79 respectively to round out the lineup for the Lions.

The 72-hole competition will continue Saturday with 36 holes and the final round will be played Sunday, May 6th.
