State College, Pa., May 1, 2004 ¨C Junior Greg Pieczynski (Kingston, Pa.) shot a final round 67 and finished the 28th annual Rutherford Intercollegiate with an 8-under par 72-69-67-208 to win the tournament crown by three strokes. As a team, Penn shot a tournament-best round score of 278 in today¡¯s final round to come within one stroke of tournament-winner Towson. The Nittany Lions entered the third round in fourth place tie overall and trailed Towson by 12 strokes at the end of Saturday¡¯s action, coming up just short of a 13th consecutive Rutherford title.

Two Nittany Lion freshmen finished with sub-par final rounds, as both Marco Poccia (Saratoga Springs, NY) and Jason Pannone (East Greenwich, RI) 3-under 69¡¯s. Pannone (T-19th place) joined juniors Mark Leon (70-72-73-215; T-12th place) and Andrew Price (70-73-74; T-17th) in the tournament¡¯s top 20 individuals, while Poccia finished in a tie for 26th place with his final 73-79-69-221.

Towson captured the tournament crown, as it shot a 282-287-289-858. Penn State finished in second place with its 289-292-278-859, James Madison (287-289-294-870) in third, Western Kentucky (295-287-292-874) in fourth, and Bowling Green (287-298-291-876) in fifth.
