Men's Golf Takes Third Place at the First Energy Intercollegiate

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa., April 17, 2005 - The Penn State men's golf team jumped five spots in the final round of the First Energy Intercollegiate to finish in third place. The Nittany Lions shot a third-round score of 293 for a final 885 (+21) at the Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio.

The University of Toledo took first place in the tournament with an 868 (+4) followed by Ball State University, which shot an 873 (+9). Justin Bertsch of Toledo was the individual winner of the tournament claiming victory in a four hole playoff and finishing with a final score of 210 (-6).

Nittany Lion freshman Robert Rohanna (Waynesburg, Pa.) took sixth place individually with a final score of 218 (+2). Senior Ted Neville (Oklahoma City, Okla.) grabbed 10th place after firing a 220 (+4) and freshman Harvin Groft (State College, Pa.) and Sophomore Marco Poccia (Sartoga Springs, N.Y.) both placed in a tie for 18th with their final scores of 225 (+9). Senior Greg Pieczynski (Kingston, Pa.) finished in a tie for 29th place shooting a 227 (+11).

The Nittany Lions will travel back to Ohio next weekend to compete in the Kepler Intercollegiate held in Columbus on April 23-24.
