Men's Golf Sits in Fourth Place After One Day at the First Energy Intercollegiate

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa., April 16, 2005 - The Penn State men's golf team shot a two-round score of 305 to hold 8th place at the First Energy Intercollegiate played at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio.

Freshman Robert Rohanna (Waynesburg, Pa.) shot a 75 (+3) in the first day of the tournament to solidify a tie for 13th place with nine other golfers.

The University of Toledo leads the tournament shooting a 283 (-5) followed by Ball State University 292 (+4) and Wright State University 296 (+8). Brandon Knutson of Wright State leads the field individually with his two round score of 65 (-7).

Senior Ted Neville (Oklahoma City, Okla.) finished in a tie for 23rd place firing a 76 (+4). Freshman Harvin Groft (State College, Pa.) and senior Greg Pieczynski (Kingston, Pa.) both share a tie for 28th place with their opening day scores of 77 (+5). Sophomore Marco Poccia (Sartoga Springs, N.Y.) holds a tie for 37th place with his score of 78 (+6).

Penn State will participate in the final round of the tournament tomorrow beginning at 8:00 a.m. The Nittany Lions will travel back to Ohio next weekend to compete in the Kepler Intercollegiate held in Columbus on April 23-24.
