Men's Golf Takes 10th Place at ASU Thunderbird Invitational

University Park, Pa., April 9, 2005 - The Penn State men's golf team shot a 890 (+38) to take 10th place at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational held at Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Ariz. Senior Mark Leon (Brampton, Ontario) fired a 222 (+9) to take a tie for 34th place individually. UNLV finished in the top spot with an 859 (+7) followed by Pepperdine (+9) and host university Arizona State (+17).

Senior Ted Neville (Oklahoma City, Okla), sophomore Marco Poccia (Sartoga Springs, N.Y.) and freshman Robert Rohanna (Waynesburg, Pa.) all finished in a tie for 41st shooting a 224 (+11). Junior Greg Pieczynski (Kingston, Pa.) took 79th place with a 239 (+26).

The University of Arizona featured the top three golfers in the tournament. Kipp Riehle finished in first place with a 206 (-7) followed by Nathan Lashley who shot a 212 (-1) and Henry Liaw (213, E) to guide the Wildcats to a fourth place finish.

Penn State will next be in action on April 16-17 to participate in the First Energy Intercollegiate held in Akron, Ohio. The team will then travel to Columbus, Ohio to take part in the Kepler Intercollegiate held from April 23-24.
