Jeff Turton Named Big Ten Golfer-of-the-Week

Turton Placed Second Overall at the Kauai Cup Last Weekend

State College, Pa., March 22, 2000- Penn State sophomore golfer Jeff Turton (Ithaca, N.Y.) has been named Big Ten Golfer-of-the-Week for the period of March 14-20, conference officials announced Wednesday afternoon.

Turton is coming off a second place finish at the Kauai Cup in Princeville, Hawaii. Turton finished the tournament with an even par score of 216 (74-73-69). Turton's third round score of 69 tied for the lowest one-round total of his career.

Penn State placed third in the Kauai Cup's 11-team field while finishing ahead of James Madison, Eastern Michigan and Big Ten rival Iowa. Scott Phillis (Meadville, Pa.) and Matt Abbott (Endwell, N.Y.), along with Turton, led the Lions with scores of 219 and 220 respectively.

Turton is the first Penn State golfer to be honored by the conference this season. He currently holds a season stroke average of 75.4.

Penn State will return to action when it travels to Pottsboro, Tex., on March 25-26 to participate in the Dr. Pepper Intercollegiate.
