Nittany Lion Men's Golf Team Heads to North Carolina for Fifth Annual Pinehurst Intercollegiate

University Park, Pa. - The men's golf team will head to Pinehurst, North Carolina on Sat. March 14th, to compete in the fifth annual Pinehurst Intercollegiate. The 20-team field will compete on the 7,035-yard, par-72 Centennial Pinehurst No. 8 golf course.

The Nittany Lions have had a great run at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate tournament in past years, placing third in both 2008 and 2007. The three-day, 54-hole tournament will take place March 15-17 at the world famous Pinehurst Resort: the site of the 1997 and 1998 PGA Club Pro Championship.

Not only is the tournament and course familiar to the Penn State men's golf program it is also familiar to junior Kevin Foley (Somerville, N.J.). Foley tied for 19th with an eight-over par in 2008 and tied for seventh in 2007 with a one-over par finish.

Among the 20 teams competing includes Big Ten teams such as Michigan and Michigan State. Michigan will be great competition as they placed second in the first annual Big Ten Match Play in February of this year. Other teams include Ball State, Belmont University, Eastern Kentucky, Marquette University, Marshall University, Miami of Ohio, Minnesota, N. Car. Greensboro, N. Car. Wilmington, Old Dominion, Radford University, Southern Mississippi Toledo, VCU, Virginia Tech, Western Illinois and Wichita State.
