Men¡¯ Golf in Third After Two Rounds at Big Red Classic

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. ¨C After two rounds of golf, the Penn State men¡¯s golf is in third place at the Big Red Classic in Ocala, Florida. The Nittany Lions shot a 577 (+1) putting them six strokes behind the leader Lamar University, who shot a 571 (-5). Michigan State is in second with a score of 575 (-1).

Penn State was led by senior Jim Fuller (Muskogee, Okla.), whose two round total of 142 (-2) tied him for the overall lead with four other golfers. Fuller shot a first round of 72 and a second round of 70.

Several other Nittany Lions are among the top placers and are still in contention for the individual title. Senior Andy Latowski (Pittsburgh, Pa.) is tied for ninth, two strokes back at 144 (E). Senior Josh Dawes (Jacksonsville, Fla.) is tied for 13th, but is only three strokes behind the leaders. He shot rounds of 70 and 75 for a 36-hole score of 145 (+1). Freshman Mark Leon (Brampton, Ontario) also stands among the top 15 golfers entering the final round. Leon is tied for 15th with a score of 146 (+2).

The Nittany Lions two round score of 577 ties for the sixth best 36-hole performance in school history.

The final 18 holes of golf will take place tomorrow. The action is set to begin at 8:00 a.m.
