Men's Golf Team Finishes in Ninth at the VCU Shootout

Manakin-Sabot, Va. - The Penn State men's golf team concluded the VCU Shootout in ninth place after a five-over par final round (289). The Nittany Lions shot rounds of 294, 280, and 289 to finish at +11.
Freshmen Nick Archambault (St.-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Q.C., Canada) led the Nittany Lions and tied for 14th with a three-round total of one-under par (212). Archambault shot a first round one-over par (72), second round two-under par (69) and a third round even par (71).
"Nick began today in the pouring rain with a double bogey and worked very hard to end at even par," said head coach Greg Nye. "He played a terrific tournament and is playing great golf. It is impressive to watch such a young guy play like he has been."
Junior Kevin Foley (Sommerville, N.J.) shot a three-round 213 to finish at even par and tie for 19th place. Foley shot a three-over par (74) first round, a three-under par (68) second round and an even par (71) final round. Junior T.J. Howe (Osceola, Pa) and sophomore Tommy McDonagh (Wilton, Conn.) both tied for 56th with a three-round eight-over par (221). Junior Jim Markovitz (Bridgeville, Pa) scored a 77, 71, and 74 to total at nine-over par, tied for 59th.
The men's golf team will continue competitive play in two-weeks at the Brickyard Collegiate Golf Championship in Macon, Ga., October 11th through the 13th.
