Cadogan Earns First Team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Honors

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Junior tackle Gerald Cadogan has been selected Penn State's 36th ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American® under Coach Joe Paterno.

Cadogan earned first team honors, becoming the 23rd Nittany Lion under Paterno to earn first team Academic All-America® honors, a total of 27 times. The Nittany Lions' total of 38 Academic All-America® football players ranks fourth among all Division I-A institutions.

The Penn State football team has had a least one Academic All-American® in each of the past six seasons, with Paul Posluszny being selected the 2006 Academic All-American® of the Year for the University Division in voting by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Hailing from Portsmouth, Ohio, Cadogan is a two-time ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honoree. He has started all 12 games this season and has helped Penn State average 399.0 yards per game - 187.4 rushing and 211.6 passing. Cadogan has been instrumental in the Nittany Lions rushing for 200 yards or more five times this season, with 256 yards vs. Iowa and 251 yards vs. Purdue. Senior tailback Rodney Kinlaw has rushed for 1,186 yards, the 10th highest total in school season history. A two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree, Cadogan is a double major in rehabilitation services and psychology.

Cadogan was joined by teammates Sean Lee, Jordan Norwood and Mark Rubin on the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Football Team.

The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® Teams are selected by the 1,800 members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20 on a scale of 4.00.



The Nittany Lions finished the regular season with an 8-4 record and will be making their 34th bowl appearance under Paterno, who is the all-time leader in bowl visits and wins (22-10-1). Penn State will face Texas A&M in the Valero Alamo Bowl on Dec. 29 at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
