Nittany Lions in the NFL – Week Nine

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - A total of 29 Penn State football alumni are populating the rosters of 21 National Football League teams. The Nittany Lions annually are among the top-20 programs nationally in producing players in the NFL. Each week throughout the year, GoPSUsports.com has provided updates on the exploits of these former Nittany Lion greats.

Former Nittany Lions continued to make an impact in Week 9. Offensive linemen A.Q. Shipley and Stefen Wisniewski helped power strong offensive performances, as Shipley’s Cardinals line did not yield a sack and Wisniewski’s Eagles scored 51 points against the Broncos. On the defensive side of the ball, linebacker Navorro Bowman continued to make himself at home in Oakland, leading his new team in tackles for a third consecutive week, while defensive end Anthony Zettel recorded a sack against the Packers to help lead the Lions to a win in Lambeau Field on Monday Night Football. Additionally, linebacker Tamba Hali was activated from the PUP list and made his season debut with the Chiefs.

Bowman led the team in tackles for the third week in a row, he posted 10 tackles, including five solo stops, and a quarterback hit.

Godwin had one catch for 9 yards and a fumble recovery on a punt.

Gould converted a 42-yard field goal and his only extra point attempt against the Cardinals.

Christian Hackenberg (2013-15) QB, New York Jets
Jets 34, Bills 21
Hackenberg was inactive this week.

Tamba Hali (2002-05) LB, Kansas City Chiefs 
Cowboys 28, Chiefs 17
Hali was activated from the PUP list and made his season debut, playing on 23 snaps and recording a tackle.

Jordan Hill (2009-12) DT, Detroit Lions
Lions 30, Packers 17
Hill is on injured reserve with a bicep injury.

Lee started at linebacker for the Cowboys and led the team with a season-high 12 tackles, including eight solo stops and two tackles for loss in a win over the Chiefs.

Lucas saw action against the Raiders on special teams.

Mauti saw action on special teams in a win over the Buccaneers.

Smith started at left tackle against the Saints and has started all 39 games of his NFL career.

Ross Travis (men's basketball - 2011-14) TE, Kansas City Chiefs

Travis saw action at tight end for the Chiefs and had one catch for 3 yards.

Cameron Wake (2000, 02-04) DE, Miami Dolphins

Wake started for the Dolphins and one tackle, a solo stop, against the Raiders.

Trevor Williams (2012-15) CB, Los Angeles Chargers

Wisniewski started at left guard in the win over the 49ers and helped pave the way for Carson Wentz to throw for four touchdowns with no interceptions.

Zettel started for the Lions and tallied three tackles, including a sack, in a Monday night win over the Packers.
