STATE COLLEGE, Pa., October 27, 2002 - Penn State's Big Ten clash with Illinois on Saturday, November 2 will be nationally televised by ESPN. Kickoff has been set for 3:30 p.m. ET in Beaver Stadium.
The telecast is the ninth announced TV appearance of the season for the No. 21 Nittany Lions, who are 5-3 overall and 2-3 in the Big Ten following Saturday's 13-7 loss at No. 4 Ohio State. Penn State has appeared on television in 99 of its last 100 games, including the last 65 contests.
The Lions will be making their third appearance of the season on ESPN against the Fighting Illini. Penn State's games with UCF and Iowa were on ESPN, the win over Northwestern aired on ESPN2 and the victory over Louisiana Tech was an ESPN Regional telecast. Penn State's other four contests have aired on ABC against Nebraska, Wisconsin, Michigan and Ohio State.
Illinois is 3-5 overall and 2-2 in the Big Ten after belting Indiana, 45-14, on Saturday. The Illini have won two straight.
Penn State leads the series with Illinois, 9-2, including a 3-0 mark in Beaver Stadium. The Nittany Lions had won seven consecutive meetings before Illinois posted a 33-28 win last year in Champaign.
Future Penn State contests may be selected by the networks under the six and 12-day provisions of their contracts with the Big Ten.
A limited number of tickets remain for the Illinois contest, as well as Penn State's remaining home games with Virginia (Nov. 9) and Michigan State (Nov. 23).
