The contest with the Wildcats will be Penn State's 83rd annual Homecoming tilt. The Nittany Lions are 59-18-5 on Homecoming, including a 33-3 mark under Coach Joe Paterno.
The telecast is the seventh announced TV appearance of the season for the No. 15 Nittany Lions, who are 4-1 following Saturday's big 34-31 win at previously uneaten Wisconsin. Penn State has appeared on television in 96 of its last 97 games, including the last 62 contests.
The Northwestern game will be Penn State's first appearance on ESPN2 this season. The Lions appeared on ESPN vs. UCF and Iowa and the win over Louisiana Tech was an ESPN Regional telecast. The Lions will be making their third appearance on ABC this season on Saturday at 4-1 and 13th ranked Michigan (3:30 p.m.). Penn State beat Nebraska in an ABC split national telecast and last Saturday's win at Wisconsin was an ABC regional telecast.
Northwestern is 2-4 overall and 0-2 in the Conference after a 27-16 loss to Ohio State Saturday. The Wildcats visit Minnesota Thursday. Future Penn State contests may be selected by the networks under the six and 12-day provisions of their contracts with the Big Ten.
