UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; - Penn State's first-ever meeting with Eastern Illinois on Sat., Oct 10 will be nationally televised by ESPN Classic. Kickoff is set for 12:00 p.m. ET in Beaver Stadium.
The Nittany Lions will be making their first appearance on ESPN Classic, which is available in approximately 55 million homes, including Comcast Ch. 265 in the Centre Region.
The contest with the unbeaten Panthers is the Nittany Lions' eighth announced TV appearance of the season. Penn State will be making its second straight appearance on ABC when it visits Illinois on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET/2:30 CT. The Big Ten Network aired No. 15/13 Penn State's first three games this season and last week's contest with Iowa was an ABC national telecast.
Eastern Illinois (4-0) was ranked No. 24 in the Sept. 21 Sports Network Football Championship Subdivision poll.
The kick times and TV for two additional Penn State games previously had been announced. The Nittany Lions' Oct. 17 Homecoming contest with Minnesota will start at 3:30 p.m. and be regionally televised by ABC (ESPN outside ABC coverage area). The Lions' road battle with Northwestern on Oct. 31 will kickoff at 4:30 p.m. ET, with coverage on either ESPN or ESPN2.
Future Penn State contests may be selected by the networks under the six and 12-day provisions of their contracts with the Big Ten. The Nittany Lions have appeared on television in 181 of their last 183 games.
Coach Joe Paterno's Nittany Lions will play their first road game of the season this Saturday when they visit the Fighting Illini. Penn State leads the series, 13-3, including a 38-24 win last year in Happy Valley. The contest will air on ABC (ESPN outside ABC coverage area), the Penn State Sports Network and www.GoPSUsports.com.
