STATE COLLEGE, Pa., September 23, 2002 - ABC Sports will be regionally televise Penn State's Big Ten Conference road opener at Wisconsin on Saturday, October 5. Kickoff time for the Nittany Lions' first road game of the season has been set for 2:30 p.m. CT/3:30 p.m. ET in Camp Randall Stadium.
The telecast is the fifth announced TV appearance of the season for the No. 12 Nittany Lions, who are 3-0 for the first time since 1999. Penn State has appeared on television in 94 of its last 95 games, including the last 60 contests.
The Wisconsin game will be Penn State's second appearance on ABC this season. The Lions beat Nebraska in an ABC split national telecast Sept. 14. The Lions also appeared on ESPN vs. UCF and will be on ESPN again this Saturday when Iowa visits for a 12:05 p.m. kickoff. Last Saturday's 49-17 win over Louisiana Tech was an ESPN Regional telecast.
Wisconsin is 5-0 and ranked No. 16 in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches poll and No. 21 in the Associated Press poll. The Badgers are idle this week. Wisconsin leads the series, 5-2, winning the two meetings, including an 18-6 decision in Beaver Stadium in 2001.
Future Penn State contests may be selected by the networks under the six and 12-day provisions of their contracts with the Big Ten.
