Mike Riley The Series: The Nittany Lions and Beavers are meeting for the first time. Oregon State is the only Pacific-10 Conference team Penn State has not faced on the gridiron. This Week Penn State looks to build on the momentum from a strong opening performance, hosting Oregon State in the first meeting between the schools. The Nittany Lions opened their 122nd season with a 66-10 victory over Coastal Carolina on Saturday in Beaver Stadium. The Beavers lost at Stanford, 36-28, on Aug. 28. Penn State has won 32 of its last 41 games overall, tied for the nation's seventh-best record over that span. The game will be televised by ABC, with ESPN2 airing outside the ABC coverage area. Nittany Lions Roll in Opener Penn State posted its highest total offense in 13 years and six players scored touchdowns as the Nittany Lions rolled past Coastal Carolina, 66-10, Saturday in their season opener in Beaver Stadium. The victory was the 373rd in Joe Paterno's career, as he tied Florida State coach Bobby Bowden for the all-time lead among major college coaches. Penn State improved to 36-7 in season openers under Paterno, scoring its most points in an opener since 1926. The Nittany Lions gained 594 yards, their most since posting 661 yards in a 59-34 win at Rutgers in 1995. Penn State gained 334 rushing yards, scoring seven touchdowns, and had 260 passing yards. Four Nittany Lions ran for 60 yards or more. Evan Royster scored a career-high three touchdowns, gaining 64 yards on just eight carries. Freshman Stephfon Green had a game-high 89 yards on 10 carries and two scores. Brent Carter gained a career-high 67 yards and Chaz Powell scored on a 55-yard reverse. In his first start, Daryll Clark was 11 of 14 for 146 yards, throwing a five-yard TD pass to Jordan Norwood in the second quarter. The Lions held CCU to 52 rushing yards on 32 attempts.
