MetLife Stadium To Implement NFL Bag Policy For Penn State-Syracuse Aug. 31 Opener
Aug 24, 2013
EAST RUTHERFORD, Pa.; August 24, 2013 - Fans attending the Penn State-Syracuse season opener at MetLife Stadium are advised that the National Football League's policy limiting the size and type of bags permitted in the stadium will be in effect for the August 31 contest between the Nittany Lions and Orange.
To provide a safer environment for the public, MetLife Stadium, home of the New York Giants and New York Jets, has implemented the NFL policy that limits the size and type of bags permitted inside the stadium. The policy began with pre-season NFL games, and is being enforced for all stadium events, including the Penn State vs. Syracuse clash. The Aug. 31 game will kick at 3:30 p.m.
Penn State, Michigan and Michigan State are among the Big Ten institutions that limit the size of bags at home athletic events. Penn State implemented the policy last spring, starting at the Blue-White Game, and limits the size of bags to no larger than 4" x 6" x 1" at all home athletic events this year. One clear one-gallon plastic bag per person will be permitted at Penn State home athletic events and all items are subject to inspection.
More information on Penn State's bag policy will be distributed next week. The home opener for Coach Bill O'Brien's Nittany Lions is Sept. 7 against Eastern Michigan at 12 p.m.
Student tickets for the Syracuse game are $25 and go on sale Monday, Aug. 26 at 7 a.m. at Gate B of the Bryce Jordan Center. Each student will be permitted to purchase two tickets at $25 per ticket and must present a valid Penn State ID+ Card to secure the tickets. All sales are cash only.
In May, the NFL Committee on Stadium Security unanimously recommended the implementation of this measure, which will enhance public safety in all stadiums. It was discussed with all clubs at the May league meeting and has been implemented at all NFL stadiums beginning with pre-season games.
MetLife Stadium is strongly encouraging fans to not bring any type of bags to the Aug. 31 game, but has outlined what is permissible. Fans will be able to carry the following style and size bag, package, or container at stadium plaza areas, stadium gates, or when approaching queue lines of fans awaiting entry into the stadium:
Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and do not exceed 12" x 6" x 12.", or
One-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc bag or similar).
Small clutch bags (wristlet), approximately the size of a hand (4.5" x 6.5"), with or without a handle or strap, may be carried into the stadium along with one of the clear bag options.
Prohibited items at MetLife Stadium include, but are not limited to: purses larger than a clutch bag, coolers, briefcases, backpacks, fanny packs, cinch bags, luggage of any kind, seat cushions, computer bags and camera bags or any bag larger than the permissible size.

Fans will continue to be able to enjoy their tailgate activities in the parking lots and to do so with greater safety.
