Nittany Lion Fans Encouraged to Pledge Their Allegiance in Celebration of College Colors Day

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - There's never been a better time to wear the blue and white and represent the Nittany Lions! Penn State fans are encouraged to wear their colors on August 31 for College Colors Day. As part of the national celebration, Penn State is participating in the inaugural Pledge Your Allegiance for College Colors Day spirit competition. The winner of the competition will earn the prestigious College Colors Day Spirit Cup and $10,000 towards the general scholarship fund.

Nittany Lion fans can register at to "pledge their allegiance" to Penn State as the school with the most college spirit and loyal fan base.

The rivalry competition includes 165 participating colleges and universities. The contest will run through the month of August, leading up to College Colors Day on August 31. Throughout the competition, standings will be tracked nationally, as well as by conference.

All registrants are entered to win weekly $50 gift cards from ESPN Shop and one of two grand prizes including a $500 college shopping spree at ESPN Shop. The inaugural spirit competition is presented by The Collegiate Licensing Company(CLC), a division of IMG College, and NCAA Football.

College Colors Day is an annual celebration that encourages fans to wear their favorite college or university apparel to promote their pride and spirit for their school.

Later that day, Nittany Lion fans can carry their pride and support into Beaver Stadium for the Football Eve celebration. The ninth annual event marks the start of the new season with a festival-like atmosphere outside at 6 p.m. The pep rally at 7 p.m. will feature the Blue Band, cheerleaders, the Lionnettes, the football team, and Penn State Head Coach Bill O'Brien.

Season and single game tickets are now on sale for the 2012 Penn State football season. For information on joining the Nittany Lion Club, purchasing season and single game tickets, as well as club seating in Beaver Stadium, fans can go to or call 1-800-648-8269 (1-800-NITTANY) weekdays from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. The pricing of 2012 Penn State football game tickets and accompanying donation levels is the same as in 2011.
