UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; June 28, 2006 - The tremendous demand for Penn State football tickets has resulted in the first sellout of the 2006 season, the October 14 clash with Michigan. The Wolverines will be playing in Beaver Stadium for the first time since 2001. The contest will kick off at 8:00 p.m. and air on ABC, the Penn State Sports Network and GoPSUsports.com. Penn State's only loss during an 11-1 Big Ten Championship campaign in 2005 came at Michigan, 27-25, on a touchdown on the last play of the game. The anticipation for the 2006 football season has pushed Penn State season ticket sales to the brink of 90,000. Penn State students sold out their 21,000 season tickets in a record 13 days. The 90,000 total is the highest since 2001, the Nittany Lions' first season in an expanded Beaver Stadium, which has a capacity of 107,282, second-largest in the nation. More than 98 percent of current season ticket holders are returning to Beaver Stadium this fall, the highest renewal rate since the 2001 campaign. Membership in the Nittany Lion Club has grown to more than 20,000 with the addition of over 2,000 new members during the past six months. The new Nittany Lion Club members have purchased in excess of 5,000 new season tickets for the 2006 campaign, Joe Paterno's 41st as head coach. Penn State alumni can purchase single game tickets for the upcoming season on Friday, June 30. The annual alumni sale begins at 10:00 a.m. and all orders are to be placed online at: www.GoPSUsports.com, the official website of Penn State Athletics. Phone and counter orders are not available for the alumni sale. There is a limit of two tickets for October 21 Homecoming battle with Illinois (TBA). Tickets also are available for the Nittany Lions' remaining home games: Akron (Sept. 2, 3:30 p.m.); Youngstown State (Sept. 16, 3:30 p.m.); Northwestern (Sept. 30, TBA); Temple (Nov. 11, TBA) and the Senior Day/Land Grant Trophy clash with Michigan State on Nov. 18 (TBA). Should tickets remain after the alumni sale, the public sale of Nittany Lion single game tickets will begin on Friday, July 7 at 10:00 a.m. Orders will be made exclusively online at: www.GoPSUsports.com. Phone orders, counter and group sales will take place only if tickets remain after the alumni and public sales. Phone and counter sales will begin Friday, July 21 at 8:00 a.m. if tickets remain. The numbers to call are: 814-865-5555 or 800-863-3336 weekdays from 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Paterno's squad returns 34 letterwinners and 11 starters for the 2006 season, including returning All-Americans and 2006 co-captains Paul Posluszny and Levi Brown and 2005 All-Big Ten selections Jay Alford and Tony Hunt. Paterno recently was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame and will be inducted in December
