UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Blue-White Game presented by AAA will pit the Penn State offense vs. the defense and feature a new scoring system under head coach Bill O'Brien.
The Nittany Lion defense will be wearing blue jerseys and the offense will wear white, with the quarterbacks sporting red jerseys as in previous years.
The Blue White game will kick Saturday at 2 p.m. in Beaver Stadium. Admission and parking are free, with parking lots opening at 8 a.m. and stadium Gates A & B opening at 11:30 a.m. The game will air live on the Penn State Sports Network and www.GoPSUsports.com with Steve Jones and Jack Ham calling the action. BTN will air the game at 8 p.m. on Saturday.
Blue-White Game scoring for the Penn State offense will be determined as follows:
Touchdown = 6 pts
Field Goal = 3 pts
Big play (15+ yard play) = 2 pts
Two Consecutive First Downs = 2 pts
PAT = 1 pt
The Nittany Lion defense will record points using this system:
Touchdown = 7pts
Turnover (Unless TD) = 6pts
Sack = 4pts
Three-and-Out = 1 pt
Tackle for loss = 2 pts
The Blue-White Game presented by AAA is one of the nation's most popular spring football contests. A record crowd of 76,500 flocked the 2009 intra-squad scrimmage, as the event's attendance mark fell three consecutive years, topping 70,000 in 2007, '08 and '09.
On Friday, O'Brien is scheduled to announce the winner of the WingFest Contest sponsored by WTAJ-TV. He will make the announcement at 8:45 p.m. at the entertainment stage west of Beaver Stadium, followed by fireworks at 9:15 p.m. The WingFest, carnival, and food vendors open at 6:00 p.m. and the Penn State Idol finals are at 7:00 p.m. The band Go Go Gadget will perform from 5:45-8:45 p.m. on the stage.
On Saturday, the carnival and entertainment stage will open at 10 a.m. Beaver Stadium Gates A& B will open at 11:30 a.m. and Gates C & E will open at 12:00 p.m. the popular autograph session with the football student-athletes, which will run from 11:55 a.m.-12:40 p.m The carnival will run until 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Sunday.
The Beaver Stadium 5K Run/Family Fun Walk to benefit Special Olympics Pennsylvania will begin Sunday at 11 a.m. The event has raised more than $120,000 for Special Olympics Pennsylvania in its first two years.
