A player with a great work ethic and attitude, Irvin was at defensive end prior to being shifted to tight end as the 2011 season unfolded. The new pro-style offense the Nittany Lions are implementing provides opportunities for multiple tight ends to be on the field at the same time. The coaching staff has taken note of Irvin's efforts and desire during the spring and winter strength and conditioning sessions. In the 2012 Blue-White game, he made an 18-yard reception. Irvin is on schedule to graduate in December with a degree in crime, law and justice. The former Gettysburg High School all-state honoree earned Academic All-Big Ten honors last season.
