Hali was a finalist for the Nagurski Trophy, presented to the nation's top defensive player, and the Ted Hendricks Defensive End-of-the-Year Award. Hali was a unanimous selection as the Big Ten Defensive Lineman-of-the-Year and first-team All-Big Ten. He led the conference with 11.0 sacks and 17.0 tackles for loss. Hali made 65 tackles, with 17 TFL (minus-86), 11 sacks (minus-79), four pass breakups and one huge forced fumble, which the Lions recovered in the waning minutes to preserve a 17-10 win over Ohio State. The Kansas City Chiefs selected Hali in the first round of the 2006 National Football League Draft.
