Johnson joins the Nittany Lions after playing for coach Mark Maccarone at Glassboro High School in New Jersey. Johnson was rated a four-star prospect by all four major recruiting services: ESPN,, and All four services ranked Johnson among the Top 5 prospects in New Jersey. He was ranked as a Top 25 receiver in the class by ESPN, and, with Rivals ranking Johnson 134th overall player in the 2015 class. The New Jersey product participated in The Opening, an all-star summer prospect camp held on the Nike campus, last summer. He was also a 2015 U.S. Army All-American Bowl selection. Johnson recorded 42 catches for 804 yards and nine touchdowns, as well as two rushing touchdowns during his senior season. In total, the Glassboro High School standout accounted for 1,073 total yards in 2014. He also made 22 tackles as a defensive back. Johnson also plays basketball.
