Anastasia Ferdman is Top Finisher for Penn State at Garrett Open

  • UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; November 7, 2006 - Anastasia Ferdman (Maalot, Israel) was the top finisher for the Women¡¯s fencing team in the epee division today at the Garret Open finishing fourth place. Sophia Hiss (Oklahoma City, Okla.) and Tamara Najm (Morristown, N.J.) both finished seventh in the Sabre and Foil divisions respectively.

    In the epee division, the Penn State team had three other top 20 finishes. Keri Byerts (Webster, N.Y.) finish seventh, Case Szarwark (Nashville, Tenn.) finished 10th and Megan Luteran (Glen Gardner, N.J.) finished 18th.

    Siobhan Byrne of Ohio State took first place in the saber division. In a field of 57, Penn State had four top 20 finishers. Behind Sophia Hiss were Jessica-Kim Danh (Land O Lakes, Fla.) placed 11th, Ashley Gin Fong Linker (Vernon Hills, Ill.) finished 12th and Stephanie Herbert (Wyckoff, N.J.) finished 13th.

    Topping out the Foil division was Harvard¡¯s Emily Cross. Penn State¡¯s Anne Jackson (Pittsburgh, Pa.) finished 13th and Allison Glasser (Piedmont, Calif.) finished 29th.
