Nittany Lion Fencers Compete In World University Games




State College, Pa. - August 11, 2005 - Former Penn State fencers Nonpatat Panchan (Bangkok, Thailand) and Adam Wiercioch (Gliwice, Poland) will be competing in the 2005 World University Games in Izmir, Turkey, beginning today.

Panchan recently wrapped up his Penn State career by claiming his fourth All-America honor at the NCAA Championships. Panchan was a two-time NCAA Champion in the foil.

Wiercioch was also a four-time NCAA All-American, earning the honor four straight years from 2001 through 2004 in the epee. Both fencers helped Penn State to a national title in 2002.

The Nittany Lion men's and women's fencing teams are coached by veteran head coach Emmanuil Kaidanov.
