Daniel Bak Leads Fencers with Second Place Finish at Junior Olympics
DENVER; February, 20, 2007 ¨C Freshman Daniel Bak (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) led the Nittany Lion fencers at the Junior Olympics this past weekend. He finished second in the menĄ¯s saber division out of 179 fencers from around the country. Freshman Samuel Gay (Ojai, Calif.) led a trio of Penn State fencers in the epee division with a seventh place finish. Gay was followed by freshman Maxwell Dettlinger (Louisville, Ky.) who finished 61st and sophomore Charles Cimet (East Setauket, N.Y.) who finished 72nd. They competed in a field of 228 fencers. A trio of fencers also competed in the menĄ¯s foil division led by freshman Nick Chinman (Boulder, Colo.) who finished eighth. Sophomore Alexander Louton (Hollidaysburg, Pa.) and freshman Robert MacClaren (Holey, N.Y.) also competed. They finished 32nd and 106th respectively among 218 fencers. The Penn State women fencers were represented by sophomore Allison Glasser (Piedmont, Calif.). In a field of 161 fencers, Glasser finished 12th out of 161 fencers. They will be joined by the University of Notre Dame, Ohio State University, Wayne State University, the Air Force Academy and Cleveland State University.
