Fencers Look to Come Back Strong at the Duke Invitational This Weekend
Feb. 2, 2010
State College, Pa.- The Penn State fencing team will try to bounce back in strong fashion this weekend at the Duke Invitational after a disappointing showing at the St. John's Invitational two weeks ago. The dual meet begins on Saturday, Feb. 6 and concludes the following day. MIT, Brandeis, the U.S. Air Force Academy and UNC will also be competing in the duals.
Of the schools competing in the meet, 10th-ranked Duke is the only team other than Penn State in the top ten of the USFCA rankings. However, UNC received votes for both the men's and women's rankings and the U.S. AFA received votes for the men's rankings. Duke is only ranked 10th in the men's competition, with the women's team receiving votes.
Despite losing to some of the top-ranked teams in the nation, the Penn State fencers can only look forward to the rest of the season and hope to reaffirm their status as the #1 fencing school in the country. Now that the qualifiers for the NCAA Championship bracket are only a month away, there is little time left for error.
