Hoops Madness Rocks Rec Hall
Nov. 3, 2011
UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. - Hoops Madness rocked Rec Hall Wednesday night as a large crowd enjoyed a fun night of hoops and music. The line to get into the venerable old home of Penn State basketball snaked down Burrowes Road as fans waited for the doors to open to a stellar night of entertainment. Fans were introduced to the 2011-12 Lady Lion and Nittany Lion basketball teams and were treated to a high-energy performance by Grammy-nominated rapper Fabolous.
The evening began with several contests and prizes for the fans. The crowd rose to its feet as a game of musical chairs was won by young fan-favorite Clay, followed by a heated game of knockout to determine which fan would have a chance to make a half-court shot for $10,000. The teams received a warm welcome as they were introduced and made their way from the top of Rec Hall through the crowd and on to the court. The Lady Lions and Nittany Lions each busted out their dance moves to the enjoyment of the Penn State faithful.
Before knockout winner Ryan had his chance at the $10,000 shot, Nittany Lion guard Tim Frazier and Lady Lion guard Maggie Lucas gave him some pointers on the art of the half court shot. The pair proceeded to knock down back-to-back half court efforts that electrified the crowd! Ryan's attempts were wide left and long, but it was still a great effort.
The Nittany Lions put on an impromptu dunk contest between Frazier and freshman Ross Travis that included a Frazier fyling-dunk over Cammeron Woodyard and D.J. Newbill. Frazier's between-the-legs windmill capped the victory for the junior overcoming several nice Travis efforts that drew raves from the crowd.
It was then time for Fabolous to take the stage and put on a great show for the Penn State fans. Rec Hall was rocking throughout the performance, as fans threw their hands in the air to the thumping beats and capped off a great night!
