Nittany Lion Basketball Team To Visit Clemson In Big Ten/ACC Challenge




State College, Pa. ¨C July 2, 2002 ¨C For the third time in the four-year history of the Big Ten/ACC Challenge, the Penn State Nittany Lion basketball team will meet the Clemson Tigers. This time, however, the game will be played in South Carolina. Penn State is set to visit Clemson on Tuesday, Dec. 3, for a 7:30 p.m. game, which will air live on ESPN2 to a national audience.

The two teams met in the inaugural challenge, with Penn State grabbing an 85-75 win over visiting Clemson. Last year, Clemson once again made the trek to State College and this time, and the Tigers won 79-69.

Penn State is 1-2 in the three previous years of the competition, also having lost a close 84-76 game at North Carolina State two seasons ago. Penn State is coming off a 7-21 season while the Clemson Tigers went 13-16. The ACC has claimed the crown in each of the three previous competitions, winning 5-4 in each of the first two years and 5-3 last season.

The trip to ACC land will be Penn State¡¯s second in 2002-03, as the Nittany Lions will visit North Carolina in the first round of the Pre-Season NIT. That season opener is set for 7 p.m. on November 18, also an ESPN2 national broadcast.
