Penn State Names Pat Brogan Assistant Men¡¯s Basketball Coach

State College, Pa. ¨C July 1, 2002 ¨C Penn State Nittany Lion basketball coach Jerry Dunn has announced that Pat Brogan, top assistant at Lafayette, has been named Penn State¡¯s newest assistant men¡¯s basketball coach.

Brogan recently wrapped up his eighth season as an assistant at Lafayette, having served as top assistant for the past five years. An experienced young coach, Brogan will be entering his 12th season as a collegiate coach. Prior to his tenure at Lafayette, he was an assistant coach at Muhlenberg College for three years.

¡°We¡¯re elated that Pat is joining our staff at Penn State,¡± Dunn said. ¡°He is a hidden gem who has labored very successfully for years at Lafayette. He¡¯s a great evaluator and teacher who is well respected among his peers. His enthusiasm and personality will be infectious.¡±

A 1990 graduate of Dickinson College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology, Brogan earned his Master¡¯s of Education degree in sports management from East Stroudsburg University in 1993.

Brogan also has a wealth of international coaching and playing experience. After closing out his playing days at Dickinson as the team captain in ¡¯90, Brogan played and coached professionally in Ireland. He was also head men¡¯s coach at the World Scholar Athlete Games in 1993, an event that featured high school and college athletes from 100 countries.

¡°Being from Pennsylvania and having grown up a fan of Penn State basketball, I¡¯m very excited to join the Penn State program,¡± Brogan said. ¡°I have a great deal of respect for Jerry Dunn and what he and his staff have accomplished at Penn State. I¡¯m excited about the players on this team and the recruits that are coming in. I¡¯m looking forward to this opportunity very much.¡±

Penn State will open up its 2002-03 slate at North Carolina in the first round of the Pre-Season National Invitation Tournament. The ESPN2 national broadcast will tip in the ¡°Dean Dome¡± at 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 18.
