State College, Pa. - June 19, 2001 - The Penn State Nittany Lion basketball team will host the Clemson Tigers for the second time in three years as part of the third annual Big Ten/ACC Challenge. The game will be played on either Tuesday, Nov. 27 or Wednesday, Nov. 28, at a time to be determined.

The Nittany Lions, coming off a 21-12 season that saw the team advance to its first-ever 'modern day' Sweet 16, will battle the Tigers in an ESPN-Regional broadcast. The two teams met in the first-ever Big Ten/ACC Challenge with Penn State downing the Clemson 85-75 in the Bryce Jordan Center. Last year, Penn State traveled to North Carolina State and fell 84-76, making PSU 1-1 in the Challenge.

Penn State finished tied for sixth in the 11-team Big Ten last year, made the Big Ten Tournament semifinals for the second straight season and went 2-1 in the NCAA Tournament, downing Providence and North Carolina to advance to the Sweet 16. Clemson went 12-19 overall last season and went 2-14 in conference play, placing ninth in the nine-team ACC.

Head coach Jerry Dunn will release Penn State's entire 2001-2002 schedule later in August with the completion of Big Ten television scheduling.
