STATE COLLEGE, Pa., June 5, 2003 -- Penn State football coach Joe Paterno and new Nittany Lion basketball coach Ed DeChellis will be among the participants at the Central Pennsylvania Nittany Lion Club Golf Outing and Dinner on Friday, June 13.

The 29th annual event will take place at the York Out Door Country Club in York, Pa. The reception will begin at 5:45 p.m. followed by dinner at 6:45 p.m.

Entering his 38th season as head coach of the Nittany Lions, Paterno has amassed a 336-100-3 record. He is all-time leader in victories among major college coaches and third in career victories across all four NCAA divisions. In his 54th season as a member of the Nittany Lion coaching staff, Paterno has won 20 bowl games, more than anyone, has guided the Lions to five undefeated seasons and won national championships in 1982 and 1986.

DeChellis is in his first year as head coach of the Nittany Lions. A former Penn State assistant (1987-96), he was named the program's 11th head coach on April 2, 2003. A 1982 Penn State graduate, DeChellis returned to his alma mater after rebuilding the East Tennessee State University program.

During his seven years at ETSU, DeChellis turned around the Buccaneers' fortunes, culminated by a 20-11 record and the Southern Conference Championship this past season. DeChellis guided ETSU to three consecutive SoCon North Division titles the last three years. He was named Southern Conference Coach of the Year in 2000-01 and 2001-02, and earned a 56-31 record the past three seasons, with a 105-93 mark overall.

The golf tournament is limited to the first 160 applicants. Reservations for golf, the reception, and dinner are $150.00 per person and the reception and dinner are only $70.00 per person for the first 300 reservations.

Anyone interested in attending the event should contact Jim Smeltzer at 717-761-0211 during business hours.
