UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Andrew Jones' last second put-back with 0.7 seconds remaining secured a hard fought 57-55 victory for the Nittany Lions, their second win over a ranked opponent in three days. A 26 point effort from Talor Battle propelled the Nittany Lions their third conference win this season. The Lions out-rebounded the Illini 33-28, led by Jeff Brooks with ten. The Lions move to 8-1 on the season when out-rebounding their opponent. Penn State also went 14-for-14 from the free throw line, marking their first perfect foul shot performance since 1978 against Villanova.
Combined with Penn State's Saturday victory over Michigan State, tonight's win marks the first time since 1954 that the Lions' have defeated two consecutive ranked opponents.
Penn State returns to action on Saturday when the Lions head to Columbus to take on #2 Ohio State.
