More Than 30 Penn State Winter Contests to be Televised

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. ; Jan. 7, 2008 - With the turn of the calendar, all of Penn State's winter sports teams will soon be competing, with more than 30 of their regular season events set to air on television and radio over the next three months.

The Nittany Lion and Lady Lion Basketball teams are off to great starts in Big Ten Conference competition and 26 of their remaining regular season games will be televised, in addition to all Big Ten Tournament games. Twenty-two Penn State basketball games will be televised by the Big Ten Network, in addition to coverage of both conference tournaments in March.

In addition to the Big Ten Network contests, the Nittany Lions (10-4, 2-0) will make their fifth ESPN/ESPN2 appearance of the season on Tuesday, Jan. 29, when they host Ohio State at 7:00 p.m. on ESPN. The Lady Lions (11-4, 2-1) have two more appearances on WPSU-TV - on Jan. 20 vs. Michigan and Feb. 3 vs. Wisconsin. Wins over Arizona and Illinois previously aired on WPSU-TV, while the thrilling win over No. 10 Duke aired on ESPN2.

The No. 4 Nittany Lion wrestling team (5-0) appeared on WPSU-TV last Friday, crushing No. 17 Cornell, 35-10. Penn State's Feb. 15 home dual with Michigan State will air live at 7:00 p.m. on the Big Ten Network. The Nittany Lions' Feb. 23 clash at Lock Haven will air live at 8:00 p.m. on WHVL-TV.

The Penn State men's and women's gymnastics teams also will appear on the Big Ten Network this winter. The men's team, the 2007 NCAA Champions, will be on the network for their meets at Michigan (Jan. 19) and Ohio State (Feb. 24). The women's squad will appear on the BTN when they host Michigan (Jan. 19), as well as Maryland, Nebraska and Rutgers (March 21) and when they visit Ohio State (Feb. 24). In addition to coverage of the Big Ten Men's and Women's Basketball Tournaments, the Big Ten Network also will have coverage of the conference's wrestling, gymnastics, swimming and diving and track and field championships. All Penn State men's and women's basketball games can be heard on the Penn State Sports Network, as well as at GoPSUsports.com, the official website of Penn State Athletics. Fans can listen to all basketball games by signing up for Penn State All-Access at GoPSUsports.com. Penn State basketball games, the Nittany Lion Hotline with Coach Ed DeChellis (Thursday, 6:05 p.m.) and Lady Lion Hotline with Coach Coquese Washington (Tuesday, 6:05 p.m.) call-in programs also are included in Penn State All-Access.

All Penn State wrestling matches can be heard on WBLF (970) and WKVA (920) and GoPSUsports.com. The Troy Sunderland Show can be heard every Wednesday at 6:05 p.m. on The SportsJam Network, including WBLF, as well as on GoPSUsports.com.

The Big Ten Network, which launched in August 2007, was available in more than 30 million homes by October 1, making the Big Ten Network the first new network in cable or satellite television history to surpass 30 million homes in its first 30 days.

The Big Ten Network is airing more than 200 Big Ten basketball games in 2007-08, with 140 men's regular season games, including 64 of the 99 intraconference games. The network also is airing 55 women's regular season games and will carry three games from the Big Ten Men's Basketball Tournament and nine contests from the Big Ten Women's Basketball Tournament.

More than 200,000 expanded basic customers in Pennsylvania receive the Big Ten Network. Service Electric, RCN, D&E and Penn State campus cable customers in the Commonwealth have had the network on their expanded basic packages since early last fall, in addition to all DirecTV and DISH Network customers.
