Penn State Team Notes

Penn State shot a blistering 70.8-percent in the first half, connecting on 17 of 24 attempts. This was the highest shooting percentage in a single half in 11 seasons (12/30/06 vs. VMI, 70.3%)

Out-rebounded Northwestern, 17-9, in the opening half, and finished the game with a 40-27 advantage.

The Nittany Lions gave up a season-high 11 three-point baskets.

This was the sixth outing this season where Penn State shot above 50-percent (54.5), and the Nittany Lions are 5-1 in those games.

Nittany Lions Individual Notes

Lamar Stevens finished the game with a career-high 30 points, reaching double figures for the 14th time this season and the 35th time in his career. It also marks the 10th time in his career he has surpassed 20-plus point performance, fifth this season.

Stevens is the 45th player in Penn State history to reach the 30-point mark. He is the third active player to reach the mark, and the second this season (Shep Garner – 30 at Boston College, 12/2/2015, Tony Carr – 33 vs. Campbell, 11/10/2017; 31 vs. Texas A&M, 11/21/2017)

Stevens’ 14 made baskets was a new career high for the sophomore, and set a new Bryce Jordan Center men’s game record, passing D.J. Newbill (vs. Purdue, 1/17/15), Joe Crispin (vs. Pitt, 12/6/01), and Will Solomon (of Clemson, 12/1/99), who all made 13.

Jamari Wheeler recorded a new career-high in assists with five, all coming in the first half.

Mike Watkins finished the game with 18 points, reaching double figures for the 12th time this season and the 28th time in his career.

Watkins recorded a double-double with 18 points and 17 rebounds. This is his second straight, the sixth of the season, and 14th of his career. Watkins’ 17 boards tied a career high, which he grabbed in back-to-back games as he grabbed 17 against Maryland as well.

Watkins tallied four blocks on Friday night, extending his block streak to 33 games.
